[29‑May‑2024] It's Lady's Slipper season in Western Massachusetts! These beautiful flowers, also known as mocassin flower, are part of the orchid family. They start blooming in the middle to end of May in wooded areas and often near the base of trees.

[18‑May‑2024] Unpaved Trails for All, in partnership with AMC, will be holding this event at the universally accessible trail at the Fort River Division of the Sivio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge. The goal of this event is to raise awareness about the need for more unpaved accessible trails in the Commonwealth and support advocacy for the Massachusetts Trails for All Act (S.446, H.769), which was introduced in 2023 by Senator Joanne Comerford and Representative Michelle Ciccolo. Wheeling Along
[11‑May‑2024] Our own Heather Wyman (Conservation Committee) attended AMC NH's Spring Workshop at AMC's Cardigan Lodge last weekend. Participants could choose one of eight workshops to expand their knowledge of various aspects of safe, three-season back country travel. Heather participated in the trail maintenance workshop and the group worked on improving the All Persons Trail near Cardigan Lodge. The weekend was packed with fun, learning and camaraderie!

Columbia Greenway Rail Trail
[30‑Apr‑2024] One of the only elevated urban rail trails in the U.S., the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail follows the former New York/New Haven/Hartford Railroad, weaving its way through downtown Westfield and surrounding neighborhoods before crossing farmland and ending at the Southwick city line. Westfield River Waterfront Cleanup
Celebrating Earth Day 2024
[22‑Apr‑2024] The Westfield River is a high priority, biodiversity conservation area in southern New England and one of the healthiest tributaries of the Connecticut River. In recent years, the Western MA Chapter's Conservation Committee has collaborated with the Westfield River Watershed Association in their twice-yearly waterfront cleanup events. Since 2020, we have removed over two tons of material from the area of the West Springfield levee in West Springfield, MA. LEARN MORE »

NET Trail Adopters Meet
[19‑Apr‑2024] The New England Trail (NET) Committee held their annual meeting for trail adopters on Saturday April 13 at the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst. Adopters had opportunities to ask questions of AMC and NPS staff, socialize with their fellow trail maintainers and enjoy lunch in a beautiful setting to kick off the 2024 trail season!

Solar Eclipse Party
[10‑Apr‑2024] About 130 people came to the AMC Noble View Outdoor Center to join our solar eclipse party on Monday! The skies were clear and the temperature was comfortable as folks hiked, played games and enjoyed the awesome spectacle of this once-in-a-generation celestial event with friends.
