What's in a Name?

Area served by the Berkshire Chapter
AMC chapters are typically named to reflect where most of their members reside and where most of the chapter activities take place. Today we are called the Berkshire Chapter. Yet in addition to Berkshire county, the Chapter also includes Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties. It also turns out that at least three quarters of our chapter's volunteer-led activities happen in the Connecticut River Valley!
We seek to engage people of all ages, races, and persuasions in outdoor recreation and nature conservation. While the "Berkshires" may evoke inviting images of pristine mountains, forests and streams, it may not resonate as such with all of our possible members. We are seeking a name that reflects the full range of communities our chapter serves in Western Massachusetts.
